Hi there, fellow book lovers!
My name is Tamara, but you can call me The Xennial Reader.
I’m an 80’s baby that grew up reading all kinds of books, including those that were way beyond my age limit (like Harlequin novels and Terry McMillan at age 10… LOL).
Yes, I’m one of those weird readers who loves ALL genres of books, with one exception: I don’t like to read novels about war. I’m a military brat and I just don’t like them, especially ones set during WWII.
But as for any other genre? In my Blaque voice, “Oh baby, bring it all to me…” I love reading both fiction and non-fiction. And while I do enjoy some YA every now and then, I can honestly admit that I’ve outgrown it, especially when it comes to fantasy or horror. I prefer to read about adults or just-became-adults (LOL) in those situations now.
I do still enjoy a lot of the works from my youth, though, and I can’t wait to share many of them with my own two children. I’m also really passionate about finding children’s books and YA books that feature characters of color that my kids can see themselves in.
I believe that words carry power, especially the written word which, if preserved properly, can truly stand the test of time and continue to influence generations to come. I’m always intrigued by the imaginations of authors and the inner workings of their minds, and it brings me great joy to conduct deep dives into their worlds, characters, and themes.
